On the second day of the new year of 2000 my husband and I found several large glass floats that had washed on to the beach within a mile of our home. We were so excited, as these are so rare to wash in. To find 4 on the same day was unheard of. When I was inspired to paint a scene from Smelt Sands or Strawberry Hill Wayside within 12 miles from us, a glass float would find its way into the seascape.
